Bangladesh’s major
political party the Bangladesh
Nationalist Party (BNP) was founded on September 1, 1978 by
then President Ziaur Rahman,
Bir Uttam. He was the founding Chairman and architect of the party.
According to its organogram,
the party has a National Council consisting of countrywide top
leaders of all unit (i.e.
districts, thanas, municipalities) committees.
The National Council elects the National Standing
Committee members, amends when
necessary the party organogram and works on issues put forward by the
Chairman.
BNP’s first national council was held on
September 1, 1978 on the same day the party was founded.
The second council was held in February
1982.
The third council was
organized on March 8 and 9, 1987.
The fourth took place on September 1, 2 and 3 in
1993.
The fifth council was
arranged on December 8, 2009
The sixth national
council will be conducted on March 19, 2016 at the Institution of Engineers,
Bangladesh in Dhaka.
