Restoring democracy – the target of BNP’s council

BNP’s long awaited 6th National Council, has already created a countrywide buzz among the politically interested people, raising hopes of a vibrant comeback of long-suspended democracy in the land. 

The party has been considering to hold its National Council since 2012, as a must-do requirement set by its organogram as well as the Election Commission. But the current regime blocked the party’s several attempts to organize its most important event.

At last, now the party leadership is on the threshold of making it happen despite numerous odds. 

Here are five important facts about the council.  

      1. The Date
The sixth national council will start at 10am on Saturday, March 19, 2016 and will continue into the night. 

2. The Venue
The council will be held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in Dhaka.

3. The Theme
The theme of the council is “We will free democracy” (Mukto korboi ganatantra). 

4. The Slogan
The slogan of the council is “Corruption-misrule will surely end, for  a democratic Bangladesh”  (Durniti dushason hobei shesh, ganatantrer Bangladesh).

5. The Logo
The council logo integrates three symbols - the National Mausoleum, the symbol of the Liberation War; the national flag, and the sheaf of paddy - BNP’s electoral symbol. A defiant youth waving the national flag is also seen in the logo on the gold colored background.
